What does family really mean to you?

The Oxford dictionary describes family as people who are just related through blood or marriage.

However, I believe family is a lot more then just being bound biologically or by a piece of paper.

Check it out as I take you in to the very crazy but fun life of my family… one that drives me insane most of the time, but one that I believe really epitomises the true meaning of what family really is.

Hark, out yonder window

How much out of your life do you just allow to pass you by as if it were scenery out the car window on a long road trip?

Studies show the more proactive you are in life the better you will do. Common sense, right? Well, apparently not for everyone. Some people miss out on opportunities in life simply because they are waiting for someone to open the door for them.

But what if, while your staring at the door, the window is open?

Yeah, think about that the next time you get passed over for something. Life is what you make it, so take every opportunity while you can.

The Slut Walk.
My first thought is… what?… followed closely by why?
And probably why I’m confused by this Monday’s Sydney Slut Walk and the various incarnations of the Slut Walk from around the globe.
If you haven’t heard of the Slut Walk, it began after a cop in the U.S made some stupid comments to female students in a lecture.
He said something along the lines of, “women should avoid dressing like sluts in order to not be victimised”.
Obviously that didn’t go down with the all girl class too well… it’s a bit like the uncovered meat comment by Australia’s Mufti, Sheik Taj Aldin Alhilali.
Since the American cop’s comments and thanks to Facebook and Twitter, Slut Walks have gone on around the world to spread the word that those who experience sexual assualt are not the ones at fault.
Agreed! - the only person responsible for any sexual assault is the perpetrator, never the victim. And no-one deserves to be treated in such a way.
But I just can’t understand how dressing in little clothing and parading around with posters like the one above helps anyone, especially perpertrators of sexual assault more responsible.
There will always be people out in the community who will to engage in these kids of acts. And I think Slut Walks only send the message to possible offenders that it’s ok to call women sluts.
I think it reinforces potential bad behaviour and ideas about women.
The idea in itself is not a bad one… I just think it could do with a more appropriate name.
But if girls out there aren’t too hungover on monday then maybe the slut walk is for you… or you might just be stumbling home from the cross  with broken heels and fall into it by mistake.
